I have been challenged a great deal by Paul Munn. For the last couple of months, he and I have been emailing back and forth about the so-called “gift economy” Jesus taught and lived. My interest in this new (to me) conversation started when I realized that I would in fact be coming back from Peru, like it or not, to a job that I wasn’t excited about and, to top it off, in the midst of a personal life confused about direction, calling, community, and relationships. I wrote Paul initially to ask him some questions about those issues (mostly for the comfort of telling someone my fears). It sort of snowballed, however, into new territory, into things I haven’t considered much to date.
